As RV travelers for over three years, we have stayed at lots of different types of campgrounds, but we had never had an opportunity to stay at a working farm like Stable View Equestrian. This was a new experience for us, and it was pretty exciting.
We visited Stable View for our daughter’s horse show, but we found out that Stable View is also part of the Harvest Hosts camping membership. I have been curious about Harvest Hosts since we started RVing, but we have not joined or stayed at any Harvest Hosts sites yet, so this felt like a little preview of that kind of camping experience.
A Different Kind of RV Stay
Stable View is not a traditional campground. It is a large equestrian and eventing facility in Aiken, South Carolina, with RV sites, lodging, barns, show arenas, trails, and event spaces all spread across a beautiful working property.
They seem to offer all sorts of accommodations, from boondocking to full hookups, plus cabins, above-barn rooms, and carriage houses. We stayed in one of their full hookup sites, which included 50 amp electric service, water, and sewer hookups.
Stable View has 10 full hookup sites from what we could tell. Four of those sites sit off by themselves, two by each carriage house, and another row of sites is near the private barn across from the covered arena and in the middle of the show arenas.
Booking Our Site
We booked directly with Stable View because we were there for the horse show. We stayed in site 8, one of the sites near the barn and covered arena, and we were within a very short walk of all the show arenas.
The booking process was very simple. We called on the phone, and they arranged our reservation, answered our questions, and sent us an invoice by email. We were able to pay online, and the cost was very reasonable for a full-service site. Our total was $71 a night after taxes and fees.
I am not sure how Harvest Hosts reservations work at Stable View, but during my research into the types of campsites they offer, I found that optional full hookup sites may be available for Harvest Hosts members for an added charge.
“We could stay in our own RV, walk over to the arenas, and still have our own space to retreat to between events.”
The Stable View Property
The 1,000-acre property at Stable View is beautiful. It is described as a world-class equestrian and eventing facility, but even if you are not there to attend a horse show or event, you can still enjoy the property.
The regional Stable View visitor listing notes 15 miles of trails for walking, running, biking, and horseback riding. The farm sits on the rolling hills of South Carolina’s countryside, and the whole place has a peaceful, well-kept feel.
There is an on-site restaurant that seems to be open during horse shows, and I also saw information online about renting parts of the facility for weddings and other events.
Built-In Entertainment
If there is an equestrian show or cross-country event happening while you are at Stable View, you have built-in entertainment. For us, being there for our daughter’s horse show made the location incredibly convenient.
The covered arena, barns, and show rings were all right there. We did not have to drive back and forth from a separate campground or hotel.
Visiting Aiken
If you need something more to do, the city of Aiken is only a few miles away. We found plenty of shopping and restaurants, and the downtown area was beautiful, with historic homes and an enchanting tree canopy.
Aiken is very equestrian-themed. You will see street signs with horses on them, horse statues around the city, and little reminders everywhere that this is horse country.
Our Campsite
Our campsite was spacious, with plenty of room for us and the dogs to spread out. All of the parking for the full hookup sites appeared to be on grass, so with heavy rain, you may have some issues getting in or out. Overall, though, I felt like it was a pretty nice setup.
We had ample water pressure, and it was pretty quiet unless you count the sounds of the horses asking for dinner in the stalls behind our RV or the announcer over the PA system for the show. Neither of those bothered us. If you spend time around horse shows, those sounds feel pretty normal.
Pet-Friendly Details
Stable View welcomes pets and, in fact, seems to encourage them. Each four-legged visitor gets a gift bag when they visit, so both Izzy and Buck were pretty excited about the swag sponsored by one of their show vendors, Hollywood Feed.
That little pet-friendly touch made the stay feel even more welcoming. It is always nice when a place does not just allow dogs, but actually seems happy to have them there.
What Stands Out
Why Stable View Felt Different
This stay had the practical pieces of RV camping, but the feeling of being on a working equestrian property.
Horse Show Access
For equestrian families, staying steps from the arenas is a major convenience compared with driving in from a separate campground or hotel.
Full Hookup Sites
Our site included 50 amp electric, water, and sewer, which made the stay comfortable while still feeling different from a standard RV park.
Farm Trails
The property has miles of trails for walking, running, biking, and riding, depending on your plans and the event schedule.
Dog-Friendly Touches
Pets are welcome, and the gift bags for four-legged visitors were a small detail that made the stay feel personal.
Close to Aiken
Downtown Aiken is nearby with restaurants, shopping, historic homes, and plenty of equestrian character.
Farm-Stay Feel
It made us think more seriously about trying alternative RV stays like farms, vineyards, and other Harvest Hosts-style locations.
Before You Go
Planning Tips for Stable View
A few practical things to know before booking an RV stay at this Aiken equestrian facility.
Call Ahead to Book
We booked directly by phone, received an invoice by email, and paid online. It was simple, but this is not the same process as booking a state park campsite.
Ask Which Site Fits Your Plans
Some RV sites are near carriage houses, while others are closer to the barns and arenas. If you are there for a horse show, location matters.
Remember the Sites Are on Grass
Our site was spacious and comfortable, but heavy rain could make arriving or leaving more complicated.
Expect Normal Horse Show Sounds
Horses, barns, and PA announcements are part of the atmosphere. None of it bothered us, but it is different from a quiet state park loop.
Bring the Dogs
Stable View was very pet friendly during our stay, and the dog welcome bags were a fun surprise.
Use This as a Boondocking Test Run
If you are curious about Harvest Hosts-style stays, this kind of farm stay may help you decide whether solar and more off-grid capability belong on your RV wish list.
