Reserving Campsite 24

Like many of our trips to Georgia State Park campgrounds, we started by making a reservation through the state park website. Before our visit, I looked on YouTube for a review that showed each site. I wanted shade and a nice water view, and we found both in campsite 24.

I usually start by looking for 50-amp service and water. Sewer is not necessary for a two-night stay, but it is still nice not to worry about the gray tank or a trip to the dump station.

Arriving After the Park Office Closed

We arrived after the park office had closed, and the separate entrances for the golf course and state park made navigation a little confusing. We came in through the wrong entrance, but after an extra turn or two, we found the campground and our site.

The park sits right in Reidsville, which makes it easy to pick up supplies or visit a restaurant. The campground has a main road with a small loop off to one side, while several rental cottages across the road back up to the golf course.

Our campsite was near the end of the loop, directly in front of the small lake and close to the fishing pier. We arrived on a weekday and found the campground almost completely empty.

To our surprise, site 24 had full hookups. The site also had a picnic table, fire ring, flat gravel parking area, and plenty of shade from large pine trees. We could sit outside with a view of the lake, and the setup would have worked just as well for a longer stay.

The official park page currently lists 29 tent, trailer, and RV campsites plus one walk-in campsite. Hookups vary, so check the individual site details in the reservation system rather than assume every campsite has sewer.

Bathhouse and Laundry

The campground has one bathhouse and a laundry room. We did not use the showers, but the modern laundry machines made it easy to catch up during our stay.

The one problem was a fire ant infestation around the laundry area, and I have the bites to prove it. It may have been temporary, but in South Georgia it is always smart to watch where you step and keep bug spray nearby.

The Lake and Other Things to Do

The small lake is open for fishing and boating. Official park information says private boats are permitted with electric motors only, and rentals may be available during warmer months.

We noticed alligator warning signs along the lake and kept our distance from the shoreline, especially with our dogs. Swimming is not listed among the official activities, so we treated the lake as a place to enjoy from the campsite, fishing pier, or a boat.

The park also has a one-mile nature trail, picnic shelters, playgrounds, miniature golf, and a seasonal splash pad. We did not have time to try those amenities because golf was the main purpose of our trip, but they add options for families.

Playing Brazell’s Creek Golf Course

Brazell’s Creek Golf Course is inside the park and just around the corner from the campground. The clubhouse is on the left, with the driving range across the street.

We reserved our tee time online. Once we had our golf cart and filled our cooler with the free ice available at the clubhouse, we headed to the driving range to warm up.

The driving range was more than sufficient. The ball machine worked well, and because it was not crowded, we had our choice of where to set up.

Two Very Different Sides of the Course

The course was beautiful, and the greens were well kept. It was challenging enough to stay interesting but still enjoyable to play.

What stood out most was how different the front and back nine felt. A long, winding bridge through the wetlands connects the original portion with the newer holes. Crossing it felt like arriving at a completely different course.

One side was more wooded, winding, and rolling. The other opened into a broad landscape with fewer trees and long views across nearby farmland. We enjoyed the change and the different challenge each section offered.

The golf carts were very nice, and we found clean restrooms and water stations throughout the course. Overall, it felt well cared for and offered a good round for the price.

We had hoped to play nine holes on our second day, but we did not think that was an option based on what we saw online. At the clubhouse, we learned that we could have arranged it. If you want a shorter round, call the clubhouse directly and ask before making other plans.
